At Elsamere Centre for Environmental Sustainability (CES), we offer a diverse range of training programmes designed for teachers, students, educators, administrators, and community members engaged in environment and development. Participants benefit from our well-equipped library, audio-visual materials, and the unique opportunity to experience the biodiversity of Lake Naivasha through guided nature walks, boat excursions, conservation demonstrations, and scientific practicals.

Our flagship programmes include:

Teacher Training on Environmental and Curriculum Integration:
Tailor-made courses that equip teachers with innovative tools for embedding environmental education into classroom and extracurricular activities. Follow-up evaluations ensure the knowledge gained translates into tangible change in schools and communities.

Field-Based Ecological Studies for Schools:
Practical learning experiences for local and international schools through day or overnight visits. Students engage in interactive lessons on conservation, biodiversity, and sustainable resource use, supported by fieldwork within Elsamere’s natural environment.

Community and Administrative Training on Environment and Policy Development:
Outreach programmes that build capacity among community groups and organizations on conservation, environmental management, and policy formulation. Sessions are delivered through workshops, lectures, and field demonstrations tailored to participants’ needs.

To remain relevant and impactful, we continually upgrade our training courses to align with emerging environmental challenges and community needs.

Our demonstration sites, which support hands-on learning, include:

Our Facilities

Transportation vehicle for elsamere education centre

Transportation Hire

We have a 33 seater coach and a 9 seater van that can be hired by our guests to and from Elsamere and for their excursions to local attractions.
We can arrange to collect your guests for you.

Laboratory

We have a laboratory, available to students and researchers, to use for their studies and practicals. It is furnished with only the basic equipment; researchers are encouraged to bring their own specific instruments.

Tree Nursery

Our tree nursery showcases a rich collection of indigenous trees, fruit trees, and ornamental flowers, emphasizing biodiversity conservation and habitat restoration. It serves as a practical learning space where trainees gain skills in seedling propagation, tree care, and sustainable landscaping. The nursery also supports community reforestation initiatives across the region.

Biogas Plant

Our biogas plant provides hands-on training on the use of clean and renewable energy from organic waste. Participants learn how animal and kitchen waste can be converted into biogas for cooking and lighting, reducing reliance on firewood and fossil fuels. The system exemplifies circular economy principles and practical climate action.

Organic Farm and Kitchen Garden

The organic kitchen garden demonstrates sustainable agriculture through the cultivation of a wide range of vegetables, herbs, and fruit crops. Learners explore eco-friendly farming practices such as composting, crop rotation, and natural pest control. It serves as a living example of how schools and households can achieve food security while protecting the environment

Fish Pond

The fishpond serves as a demonstration site for sustainable aquaculture and water resource management. It allows trainees to understand ecosystem balance, fish breeding, and nutrient cycling within a controlled aquatic environment. Beyond learning, it also highlights the link between environmental stewardship, livelihoods, and food production.

Over the years, the Elsamere Centre for Education in Sustainability (CES) has grown into a renowned destination for learning, research, and collaboration on matters of environmental conservation and sustainability. CES has hosted numerous organizations and academic institutions, including Earthwatch, the Kenya Safari Guides Association, the Tropical Biology Association (TBA), UNEP, and several overseas universities, all of which have conducted courses, workshops, and conferences at our facility. The Centre continues to welcome both local and international researchers interested in studying the Rift Valley lakes, water quality, bird ecology (ornithology), and the region’s unique geological activities. As a hub for environmental knowledge exchange, CES provides an inspiring environment for discovery, innovation, and action. We warmly invite you to partner with us in shaping a sustainable future. Learn, explore, and make a lasting difference for our planet.
