At Elsamere Centre for Environmental Sustainability (CES), we offer a diverse range of training programmes designed for teachers, students, educators, administrators, and community members engaged in environment and development. Participants benefit from our well-equipped library, audio-visual materials, and the unique opportunity to experience the biodiversity of Lake Naivasha through guided nature walks, boat excursions, conservation demonstrations, and scientific practicals.

Our flagship programmes include:

Teacher Training on Environmental and Curriculum Integration:
Tailor-made courses that equip teachers with innovative tools for embedding environmental education into classroom and extracurricular activities. Follow-up evaluations ensure the knowledge gained translates into tangible change in schools and communities.

Field-Based Ecological Studies for Schools:
Practical learning experiences for local and international schools through day or overnight visits. Students engage in interactive lessons on conservation, biodiversity, and sustainable resource use, supported by fieldwork within Elsamere’s natural environment.

Community and Administrative Training on Environment and Policy Development:
Outreach programmes that build capacity among community groups and organizations on conservation, environmental management, and policy formulation. Sessions are delivered through workshops, lectures, and field demonstrations tailored to participants’ needs.

To remain relevant and impactful, we continually upgrade our training courses to align with emerging environmental challenges and community needs.

Our demonstration sites, which support hands-on learning, include:

Our Facilities

Transportation Hire

Elsamere provides comprehensive transport solutions to ensure seamless travel for all visitors. In addition to airport transfers, the centre maintains a 33-seater coach and a 9-seater van available for hire. Furthermore, these vehicles are perfectly suited for guided excursions to local attractions, allowing guests to explore the Naivasha region with ease.

Laboratory

To support scientific advancement, Elsamere offers a dedicated laboratory facility for students and independent researchers. This space will  be furnished with essential equipment to facilitate fundamental studies and practicals. However, as the facility focuses on core functionality, researchers are encouraged to bring specialized instruments required for their specific projects.

Tree Nursery

Parallel to its research efforts, the center operates a thriving tree nursery that showcases a diverse collection of indigenous trees, fruit crops, and ornamental flowers. By prioritizing biodiversity conservation and habitat restoration, the nursery serves as an interactive classroom. Here, trainees develop vital skills in seedling propagation and sustainable landscaping, which ultimately supports large-scale reforestation initiatives throughout the region.

Biogas Plant

Building on the theme of sustainability, the on-site biogas plant offers a practical look at renewable energy solutions. The plant demonstrates how organic waste from the kitchen and farm is converted into clean energy for cooking. Consequently, this system serves as a powerful educational tool for reducing reliance on fossil fuels and implementing circular economy principles.

Organic Farm and Kitchen Garden

Complementing the energy initiatives, the organic kitchen garden serves as a model for sustainable agriculture. Visitors can explore various eco-friendly farming techniques, including composting and natural pest control. As a result, the garden acts as a living laboratory, proving that food security can be achieved in harmony with environmental protection.

Fish Pond

Finally, the fish pond serves as a vital demonstration site for aquaculture and water resource management. This facility allows trainees to observe nutrient cycling and ecosystem balance firsthand. Beyond its educational value, the pond illustrates the critical link between environmental stewardship and sustainable local livelihoods.

Over the years, the Elsamere Centre for Education in Sustainability (CES) has grown into a renowned destination for learning, research, and collaboration on matters of environmental conservation and sustainability. CES has hosted numerous organizations and academic institutions, including Earthwatch, the Kenya Safari Guides Association, the Tropical Biology Association (TBA), UNEP, and several overseas universities, all of which have conducted courses, workshops, and conferences at our facility. The Centre continues to welcome both local and international researchers interested in studying the Rift Valley lakes, water quality, bird ecology (ornithology), and the region’s unique geological activities. As a hub for environmental knowledge exchange, CES provides an inspiring environment for discovery, innovation, and action. We warmly invite you to partner with us in shaping a sustainable future. Learn, explore, and make a lasting difference for our planet.
